MY STARLIGHT CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION FUNDRAISING PAGE

Story

Hi there,

My name is Sarthak Gandhi and I am participating in the night color run on 16th AprilI, 2016! It is a 5km course designed to be very fun and entertaining with plenty of music and color.

I have decided to make a difference by creating my very own fundraising appeal for charity. The Starlight Children's foundation aims to brighten the lives of very sick children and their families. These young once playful kids are constricted to an environment surround by scary looking needles and equipment that wrench away their happiness. This foundation brings joy back into their lives and helps them forget the serious illnesses they all have. This heartwarming story really moved me and helped me realize just how much of an impact the Starlight children's foundation has...

Given his love of all things yellow, it's no surprise 4-year-old Benjamin's favourite dog is none other than a yellow Labrador. Ben's mum said they'd always planned to get a puppy for Ben and his big brother Patrick. But when Benjamin's mum and dad received the shock diagnosis that their little boy had cancer, in a heartbeat family life changed. Benjamin's diagnosis of Bilateral Wilms (cancer of the kidneys) meant long and frequent hospital stays.

Benjamin missed out on family time and playing with his big brother. The boys are very close and love nothing more than dressing up as superheroes together. Sadly, Benjamin's illness also put a pause on getting the puppy that Ben had always dreamed of. His mum said that even during his endless rounds of treatment, Ben was still hoping and wishing for a little puppy of his own. She said whenever Ben asked, she would have to sadly say "one day."

While in the hospital, Captain Starlight even made Benjamin yellow balloon dogs. Ben loved them but never stopped hoping for a real little four-legged friend.

For Benjamin, this day arrived sooner than he could've imagined. His Starlight wish came true and brought him the very puppy he had been wishing for. A yellow Labrador pup! Ben was over the moon with happiness. Being great ice hockey fans, the family named him Gretzky after the famous Canadian player. "Gretzky brings a smile to Benjamin's face every day. They are best buddies and Gretzky loves to be in the backyard playing with Benjamin and Patrick. Gretzky completes our family and we will be forever grateful to Starlight for that." Nicole said.

"We received Gretzky out of the worst situation we have faced, and we plan to give back by sharing the joy that this beautiful dog
brings to our family."

To help more kids like Benjamin get happiness and laughter back in their lives, you can easily support my efforts by making a secure donation. I would also really appreciate it if you could share my page above or comment below so more people know about it.

Starlight Children's Foundation

The Starlight Children’s Foundation transforms the experience of hospitalisation and treatment for seriously ill children and their families - Starlight  is the only children’s charity with a permanent, physical presence in every major paediatric hospital in the country.

Every minute of every day a child is admitted to hospital in Australia. For thousands of these children what happens next is the diagnosis of a serious or chronic illness that changes their life, and the lives of their families, forever.

This is where Starlight steps in - delivering a range of innovative programs, built on the World Health Organisation’s social model of health, to support the well-being and resilience of these seriously ill children and their families.

Starlight programs are integral to the total care of seriously ill children - while the health professionals focus on treating the illness, Starlight is there to lift the spirits of the child - giving them the opportunity to laugh and play and be a child again.
